International version of Samsung GALAXY Note II gets updated to Android 4.1.2

Samsung recently produced a two part video showing the Premium Suite update (Android 4.1.2) for the GT-i9300, which is the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S III. But the Korean manufacturer is also sending out Android 4.1.2 to the international version of both the Samsung GALAXY Note II (GT-N7100) and the Samsung GALAXY Note II LTE (GT-N7105). The update not only brings the new OS build, but also updates Samsung's own TouchWiz skin that runs on top of Android.

Besides the new features that come with Android 4.1.2, the update includes new additions in the Notifications toggle area, such as the ability to turn multi-windows on or off. The whole Notifications panel can now be customized and the brightness control, for example, can be disabled. The color of the status bar has been changed from grey to black and there is a new optional ink effect on the lock screen.

Those with the international version of the Samsung GALAXY Note II and the Samsung GALAXY Note II LTE will find the browser to be smoother after the update and the Samsung QWERTY keyboard now includes a Swype style of typing. The new Group Cast feature allows you to share photos and music with those who own another Samsung device.

The update is said to be rolling out right now in Poland (Samsung GALAXY Note II) and in Sweden (Samsung GALAXY Note II LTE). Eventually, the update should go global and will be available OTA or via Kies.

HTC Deluxe render leaks, showing off global version of the HTC DROID DNA

Thanks to a tweet from evleaks, we have a render of the HTC Deluxe. If the name sounds familiar, it is because at one time, this was the name that was applied to the HTC DROID DNA before the 5 inch phablet was given the scientific moniker by Verizon. And if the picture looks familiar, well, that's because the HTC Deluxe IS the HTC DROID DNA. The only difference is that because of the licensing deal with Lucasfilm, the DROID name can only be used at Verizon. As you might recall, in Japan the device is known as the HTC Butterfly J. No matter what you call it, the phablet offers a 5 inch screen with resolution of 1080 x 1920 resulting in a pixel density of 441ppi. Besides using the HTC Deluxe name overseas, the handset will also be given the name in Canada. It is similar to what Motorola did with the Motorola DROID which was given the Motorola MILESTONE name in other parts of the world.

Can the HTC DROID DNA/Butterfly J/Deluxe give the Samsung GALAXY Note II a run for its money? The pixel density on the latter is a more down to earth 265ppi, but the screen is a half inch larger. In addition, the Samsung GALAXY Note II has a 3100mAh battery compared to the 2020mAh cell on the HTC model, which reminds us of something our Momma once told us. No matter how many pixels per inch your device has, if the battery is dead, the screen is worthless.
