Olive takes base to 70,000 after latest dealer purchase

Olive takes base to 70,000 after latest dealer purchase

MPC Westcliff buy takes acquisitions to seven in the past 12 months and raises Vodafone base to 55,000 connections

Olive Communications has completed the acquisition of B2B and consumer dealer Mobile Phone Centre (MPC) in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex – adding 3,500 Vodafone connections.

Around 30 per cent of the acquired base is consumer, but it will continue to be managed by Olive’s in-house account management team dealing with one to 10 connections.

The purchase takes Vodafone Platinum partner Olive’s total base to above 70,000, of which around 55,000 are connected on Vodafone.

It takes the number of Olive’s acquisitions (a mix of base and full ownership) to seven in the past year, it having sealed deals with MPC London, MPC Orpington, Connection 365, Pioneer, Parkway Telecom and Airwaves.

The deal with MPC, which is for an undisclosed fee, has seen Olive take full ownership of the business, which includes a retail store.

Olive chairman Mark Geraghty (pictured) told Mobile News the firm was  in the process of transferring the customer base across to its own.

The store, plus MPC’s branding, will remain for the time being.

MPC Westcliff was run for 15 years by Julia Everns, who is now exiting the industry.

Geraghty also confirmed he is in the “closing stages” of agreeing to more dealer and base acquisitions, but he refused to provide further details.

Geraghty said: “It’s a good deal for us and continues our aggressive acquisition and growth strategy. We our continuing the momentum we had in 2012.

“We’ve got another couple of acquisitions going through as we speak.”

The deal was completed in the same week Olive moved to new larger premises in High Wycombe and former Azzurri Communications sales director Martin Flick began his role as MD of the firm.

Join the club: Foxconn shares drop 4% after it warns of red ink for 2012

Apple isn't the only company whose stock is being taken out back and shot after making a pronouncement about earnings. Apple's stock is down close to 10% after the tech giant reported its fiscal first quarter earnings. The company that assembles the vast majority of Apple's mobile devices, Foxconn, saw its shares drop 4% in Hong Kong on Thursday after the contract manufacturer said that low demand from its clients will result in a net loss for 2012. Foxconn lost $226.07 million in its first half, the worst showing it ever had in the period. Foxconn expects its second half loss to be smaller than the loss it reported in the first half. But the red ink it will spill for the whole year will be the first annual loss for Foxconn since 2010. That year, Nokia started losing market share which hurt Foxconn's business.

This past fourth quarter, shares of Foxconn rallied after speculation that Foxconn parent Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. would pass some of its Apple iPhone assembly business to the contract manufacturer. This was never confirmed by Foxconn or Hon Hai and Nomura analyst Aaron Jeng said, "We believe the speculation on Hon Hai's Apple order transfer was overdone." Another analyst, Barclays' Dale Gai, said any positive contribution from Apple would be delayed until the second half of 2013.

First BlackBerry 10 smartphones to be released a month after the platform's announcement

Yep, it's like having a ferrari to go to work around the corner, it's just too much.

Dual-Cores is the standard, they should make duals since their devices wont require much power (I believe).

Anyway, they should keep up with the competition, they should make business AND casual/geek/whatever phones.

business phones who doesn't require much camera mp, should be like 3.2mp with lower screen resolution and casual/geek/whatever phones, should have at least 8mp with 1080p screen resolution. Something like that.
